Garment Care
Ajrakh Cotton Clothing
Ajrakh fabrics are dyed using traditional plant and mineral based dyes, which require gentle care to preserve their rich colors and intricate patterns. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your garment looking its best:

Washing
✔ Cool machine wash (30°C or lower) on a gentle cycle or hand wash separately in cold water.
✔ Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent and wash inside out to protect the prints.
✔ Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or stain removers, as they can strip the natural dyes.

Drying
✔ Air dry in the shade to prevent fading from direct sunlight.
✔ Do not wring or tumble dry, as this may weaken the fabric.

Ironing
✔ Use a medium heat setting and iron inside out to protect the printed design.
✔ If needed, use a light mist of water while ironing to ease out wrinkles.

Storage
✔ Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
✔ For long-term storage, keep garments in a breathable cotton bag instead of plastic.

Additional Tips
✔ Natural dyes may bleed slightly in the first few washes, this is normal for most natural dyes but rare with ajrakh, but in the spirit of caution we recommend washing separately for the first wash.
If needed you can help set the colour, buy adding a small amount of white vinegar or salt to the first wash.
✔ Over time, Ajrakh fabrics develop a beautiful, lived-in softness without losing their vibrancy if cared for properly.
By following these simple steps, you’ll ensure your Ajrakh cotton clothing remains vibrant, soft, and full of character for years to come.

Handwoven Kala Cotton
Kala cotton is a naturally resilient, handwoven fabric that softens beautifully over time while maintaining its durability. Since it is crafted using traditional techniques without chemical treatments, gentle care is essential to preserve its texture and longevity.
Washing
✔ Hand wash separately in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent.
✔ Gently agitate the fabric—avoid wringing or scrubbing to protect the handwoven fibers.
✔ Rinse thoroughly with cold water to remove any excess soap.
✔ Avoid bleach, harsh detergents, or fabric softeners, as they can weaken the fibers and affect natural dyes.
Drying
✔ Air dry in the shade to prevent fading and preserve the integrity of the fabric.
✔ Do not tumble dry, as heat can shrink or distort the weave.
✔ Reshape while damp and lay flat to dry, or hang carefully to avoid stretching.
Ironing
✔ Use a low to medium heat setting and iron inside out to protect the fabric’s natural texture.
✔ A steam iron or lightly misting the fabric before ironing helps smooth out wrinkles.
Storage
✔ Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
✔ Fold neatly or roll to prevent deep creases—avoid hanging for long periods, as it may stretch the weave.
Additional Tips
✔ Due to its handwoven nature, slight irregularities in the fabric are part of its unique character.
✔ Over time, Kala cotton softens with wear and washing, enhancing its comfort while remaining durable.
✔ To freshen up between washes, simply air the garment outdoors or use a light fabric mist.
By following these gentle care steps, you'll ensure that your handwoven Kala cotton clothing remains beautiful, breathable, and long-lasting for years to come.

Ajrakh Silk Scarves
Ajrakh silk scarves are handcrafted using traditional block printing techniques and natural dyes. Their delicate nature requires gentle care to preserve the rich colours, intricate patterns, and soft texture of the silk.
Washing
✔ Silk rarely needs washing—airing it out after use is often enough to keep it fresh.
✔ If needed, hand wash only in cold water using a mild, pH-neutral detergent or a silk-specific detergent.
✔ Gently swirl the scarf in the water—avoid rubbing, wringing, or scrubbing to protect the delicate fibers and prints.
✔ Rinse thoroughly with cold water to remove any excess soap.
✔ For extra softness, add a few drops of white vinegar to the final rinse to maintain the silk’s sheen.
Drying
✔ Lay flat on a clean towel and gently press out excess water—do not twist or wring.
✔ Air dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
✔ Avoid tumble drying, as heat can weaken silk fibers and alter natural dyes.
Ironing
✔ Use a low-heat (silk setting) iron and iron the scarf while it is slightly damp to remove wrinkles.
✔ Always iron on the reverse side or place a clean cloth between the iron and the fabric.
✔ A steamer is a safe alternative for refreshing the fabric without direct heat.
Storage
✔ Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
✔ Keep folded in a breathable cotton pouch or wrapped in tissue paper to prevent snagging.
✔ Avoid hanging for long periods, as it may cause the silk to stretch.
Additional Tips
✔ Avoid unnecessary washing, silk is naturally breathable and airing it out is often enough to refresh it.
✔ Avoid contact with perfumes, deodorants, or harsh chemicals, as they can affect the fabric and dyes.
✔ To freshen up between washes, air the scarf outdoors or use a light mist of fabric refresher.
By caring for your Ajrakh silk scarf with these gentle steps, you’ll ensure it remains a vibrant, luxurious, and cherished piece for years to come.

Handwoven Wool Blankets & Shawls
Our handwoven wool blankets and shawls are crafted using traditional techniques, ensuring warmth, durability, and timeless beauty. To maintain their softness and intricate weaves, follow these gentle care instructions.
Washing
✔ Wool rarely needs washing—simply airing it out regularly helps keep it fresh.
✔ If washing is necessary, hand wash only in cold water using a mild, wool-safe detergent.
✔ Gently submerge the blanket or shawl in water and lightly swish—avoid rubbing, wringing, or scrubbing to protect the natural fibers.
✔ Rinse thoroughly in cold water to remove any detergent residue.
✖ Do not machine wash, as agitation can cause wool to shrink or felt.
✖ Avoid harsh detergents or bleach, which can damage the wool’s natural softness.
Drying
✔ Lay flat on a clean towel and gently press out excess water—do not twist or wring.
✔ Reshape while damp and air dry flat in the shade, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
✔ Never tumble dry, as heat can cause wool to shrink or lose its natural texture.
Storage
✔ Store in a cool, dry place, folded neatly to prevent stretching.
✔ Use a breathable cotton bag or wrap in tissue paper to protect from dust and moths.
✔ Add natural moth repellents like cedarwood blocks, lavender sachets, or dried neem leaves to keep pests away.
Refreshing & Removing Odors
✔ Wool is naturally odor-resistant, but if needed, lightly mist with water and air out in a shaded area.
✔ A light steam can help remove creases and refresh the fabric without washing.
✔ If the wool has absorbed an odor, hanging it outside in fresh air for a few hours usually helps.
Spot Cleaning
✔ For minor stains, blot the area with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then rinse with cold water.
✔ Avoid scrubbing, as this can damage the fibers or spread the stain.
By following these care guidelines, your handwoven wool blankets and shawls will stay soft, warm, and beautiful for years to come.
